As warm weather returns to the northeast, many Medina drivers will be on the road more often. With so many drivers putting more miles on the road, it's no wonder that summer is the season for car breakdowns—about 7 million this year, predicts AAA.
There are five ways to avoid roadside trouble:
- Test your battery. Battery failure is one of the top reasons for hot-weather car failure.
- Check your tire pressure. High temperatures cause the air in your tires to expand, leading to over-inflation, and greater risk of blowouts.
- Keep a spare tire in your car, and learn how to change it yourself.
- Pack an emergency kit to help if breakdowns do occur. An emergency kit should contain first aid, a cell phone, food and water, flares, and some basic car repair items.
- Pull over to the side of the road, out of traffic lanes, in a breakdown. Exit the car on the side away from traffic.
